Nature Walk

Nature is my medicine and inspiration.

I grew up with the bush and mountains as my backyard and spent many wonderful hours exploring. For various reasons I left school and the mountains for other places and different types of nature but I always longed for the mountains again. I found my way back to them 15 years later and except for the cold winters enjoyed living on top of the mountains, looking out over escarpments in awe and wonder at the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. Being able to step out the door and go walking through the bush was such a blessing but life moved me down off the mountains.

Fast forward 10 years I'm living on the other side of the ranges in the highest point of the Hawkesbury Valley in lovely Kurrajong village. I have an elevated position again and a tree view but I still yearn for the mountains.

Recently I took a drive back up to Katoomba and took a look around. On the way back I pulled into Mt Wilson and a walk among the ferns at the Cathedral of Ferns.

All I can see is wow! This short walk lifted my spirits and nurtured my soul like nothing else has for quite awhile. Ferns are one of my all time favourite plants, nothing says home to me like a fern. I've surrounded myself with them both in the garden and in pots and to walk among these huge specimens was jaw dropping!

Kurrajong is home for now but I do need to take time out to visit the bush more often and fill my cup.

Here's some photos as I took my walk.

If you're ever in my part of the world be sure to add the Blue Mountains and Mt Wilson to your list. Autumn and Spring are probably the best times.

What inspires you and fills your cup?
