Visions & Intentions

You may have heard of vision boards.

You may have even made some with varying degrees of success but that's the nature of a tool like this. Don't get me wrong I'm not slamming vision boards. They're a wonderful tool if viewed from the perspective of "this or better" and letting go of the outcome. Being open to the possibility that something else may be a better fit for you.

Vision boards usually focus on specific things which in itself is okay but I feel there's something more important. It's the qualities in general terms you want to attract into your life and embodying those qualities.

To me, having a vision of what you want is only part of the story. Our requests need to be backed up with some action, baby steps will do, to move ourselves towards the life we want to create. It gives strength to the vision. Adding action and intention to your visions makes you an active player in the manifesting of your dreams.

To manifest a truly authentic and happy life we need to focus on qualities we can build in ourselves and actions we can take that make us worthy of receiving what we want. Fact is, a new car/house/holiday or whatever may be wonderful and exciting but what will you do to improve your life and the life of others with your new thing?

You need to know "why" you want what you want and what you will do differently for the highest good of all when you get it. How will it help you become a better person? There's no point in all the shiny new things if you're still living the same limiting life with the same limiting beliefs. It's like saying endless affirmations but not doing anything to move your life in the desired direction.

Intentions are putting it out there and making a strong decision on the action you will take to make your intentions a reality. Intentions are the way you think, act and feel.

I'm a visual person and love images and the beauty that surrounds us but I'm also a writer and love words and the magic they contain so my vision boards contain both. There is power in words - spoken, written, our thoughts - and it brings to mind a long time ago when I was in the habit of writing my wishes in my diary and giving them a date. I had forward dated moving out of our house and into something in the next town. I'd written in steps to that move, finding a house, removalist date, cleaning, final inspection etc. then I promptly forgot about it until we were getting closer to the date and I changed my mind. I covered it all up with white-out but it was too late.

I'd set the wheels in motion and there was no going back. The Universe gave me my request in the form of an eviction notice and we had to move anyway. All worked out well and a lot has happened since those early days of working with the infinite potentiality of the Universe.

Moral to the story is I've seen it work. I've lived this stuff for a long time but I still get lost sometimes and need reminding that words as well as images shape worlds and to be careful what I wish for and how I wish for it.

So on to my version of a vision board. I love putting together these little canvases at the beginning of every year. I include numerology in the form of tarot cards of the year and lots of words that shape what I want my year to look like. It sits on the shelf above my computer where I can see and connect with it everyday.

All the words on my board are the qualities or "big picture" way I want my life to look. I'm not saying I don't put in specific requests because I do but that's an aside to my big picture which I feel creates the perfect environment for manifesting what I want and sometimes even things I didn't realise I wanted. With my vision board I'm saying I intend to focus on being all these qualities I'm asking my life to be.

I came across the word "abracadabra" which turns out to be an Aramic term meanting "I create with words".  Maybe creating with words is the write tool for you as well.
